OUR CAUSES

OUR SOCIAL MISSION

In our bid to infuse Cate.com.sg with meaning and purpose beyond its existence, we work with our partners to highlight and contribute towards causes that redress the systematic disadvantages faced by women and girls in the developing world in the areas of health, education and livelihood.

WHY WOMEN AND GIRLS?

Because we believe that they are part of the solution to global poverty and extremism. There is growing recognition among everyone from the World Bank to the U.S. military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff to aid organizations like CARE of this fact.

STATISTICS

A series of studies has found that when women hold assets or gain incomes, family money is more likely to be spent on nutrition, medicine and housing, and consequently children are healthier. A telling statistic: A woman or girl will reinvest 90% of her income into her family, compared to a man who will reinvest only 30-40%. Therefore, your dollars invested in women and girls at the personal level will help bring about powerful social and economic change indeed, affecting boys, moms and dads, and villages and towns and countries. We think this makes sense from both an emotional and intellectual standpoint.

WHERE TO START

Get into a place of conviction for yourself. Learn about the issues from The Girl Effect and an excellent essay adapted from the authors of the book, “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide”. And take it from there.

EMBEDDED GIVING. YES OR NO?

Would you prefer if each of your purchases with Cate had some form of giving built-in? Let us know, here. It would be convenient, yes, but we mentioned earlier about getting into that place of conviction beyond the pages of Cate. We’d love to hear from you, and for now, just for accountability’s sake, Cate’s giving is mostly done separately. And our missions organisation of choice is The Girl Effect, created by the Nike Foundation with contributions by the NoVo Foundation and Nike Inc., in collaboration with key partners such as the United Nations Foundation and the Coalition for Adolescent Girls.
